UCID Gaining Ground Rayaale’s Backyard: A Commentaryby/Dr. A. Jowhar
(Saylac.com Nov 27, 2009). An interesting poll has been completed by the internet based news site saylac.com. The fact of a poll being completed in Somaliland and the unexpectedness of the result of that poll are both astounding, to say the least. The public opinion poll was designed to gain a snapshot of the political leaning of youth in Borama, Somaliland. You will find the poll here in Somali UCID The question as formulated by the polling organization “Which of the two main parties of Somaliland UDUB and KULMIYE do you support?” appears unfair for those of us who support the third party of Somaliland politics UCID. Nevertheless it is important to note that the pollsters reported their findings honestly and registered their surprise at its unexpectedness. We applaud the organisation for the integrity of its reporting. We are confident that in future formulations of polling questions they will give us, the UCID party, a fair chance. This of course will be necessary for the sharpenning of their tools to gain better methodology of measurement. We are hopeful that its polling will become more accurate as the organizations gain experience and expertise. The finding of the poll will become an enigma to some. In spite of the loaded question, the obvious tilt of the pollster’s expectation, the result shows an overwhelming support for that “third party” UCID. This support of UCID is indeed a trend that is holding true all over Somaliland. The youth, the educated, the young and the vanguard of Somaliland society are increasingly switching their support over to UCID. This trend accelerated further as the party candidates played a crucial role in furthering the cause of democracy in Somaliland while maintaining the peace in this fragile nation in the recent political crisis of Somaliland. The case of Borama youth however is particularly poignant as the incumbent president who hails from this region has attempted to place a strangle hold on Borama through oppression, Rayaale 8 Kale I Sii brutality, corruption and complete control of all information that is not internet based. It is clearly no time however for UCID to rest. For these political tendencies and leanings has yet to be translated to a solid support base. There are many pleasant surprises here: including that the survey was conducted at all, that it was commissioned and carried out by an Internet based news organization, that it was completed with some degree of scientific integrity. And most pleasant of all Rayaale came out smelling badly to all concerned. The youth of Borma and those of Somaliland have decided they have no apetite for dictatorship and they are not willing to buy his primitive appeals to tribal division and sub tribal horse trading. Congratulations to Saylac.com for its pioneering role. Congratulations to the youth of Somaliland for their rejection of dictatorship, bullying and intimidation and for taking on the role of the vanguard in changing their own future and that of their nation. -Warkamaanta
