Kulmiye Party’s Policy Predilections..Mar,19,2009

Seattle(Saylac.com)-Kulmiye party has so far treated as inconsequential the failure of its political choices, despite many, like this writer, repeatedly requested to reconsider its political strategy.

Nevertheless this party’s genteel behavior is arguably the most impotent part of its strategy to allow this party fail to live up to our people’s expectations and has made it not sparing of false delicacies and dearth of view on the reality after SNM. Kulmiye party indifference to the concerns of SL citizens however can’t overcome a growing sense the party is winging it on issues of immense importance to the existence of SL unity.

Inexplicably, Kulmiye party leader in a meeting with Qaran (kulmiye satellite party) leaders promised an addendum to the constitution that will allow to increase the political parties from the existing three – I have no qualm about this but it is up to the authorities concerned (Somaliland legislative body) and not up to Kulmiye. Kulmiye leader was once again winging it when he proclaimed to the dissenting voice in their party, spearheaded by Mr. Cadami, that Kulmiye would create prime ministerial post to accommodate him.

The diaries of promises made by this party leader are filled with enjambments of the mundane and the magical. Mr.Silanyo and his party forgot or at worst ignored that Somaliland has a legislative body that deals with issues concerning about any constitutional changes. These utterly false promises could not be a campaigning chip for the party.

The danger is that what Somaliland people have seen is not an aberration, but the early indications of Kulmiye party governing style. Silanyo could win the job he has been craving, but he must demonstrate that he and his party team are up to its requirements. The signs are worrisome. Kulmiye party has been living off the SNM card only, that card so far do not underwrite a win, and all the bumbling and lopsided policies will have an unwanted repercussions.

Indeed, Kulmiye party has become captive to its policies predilections that the fiery colonels in its ranks did so much to help create for the schism of the brotherly people and to douse the radiating spirit of unity. To take care of the unity between the compatriot’s clans of this fledgling country is not a choice, as Kulmiye may believe, but it is an option for a call to its existence. The days of winging it need to end.

My advice to Kulmiye Party

The first step for Kulmiye party in search for alternative solutions is to acknowledge the disastrous consequences of its current policies. Next Kulmiye must shatter the taboos that have made it “love-to-hate” party such as its political policies based on alienation and against some sectors than embracement. SL people’s concerns about Kulmiye political policies must be considered, which must be part of the reason for Kulmiye to focus. Also Kulmiye party leaders need to be reminded of Ziad regime’s accumulative accesses, which Somaliland people had fought against, and not to sponsor same and new ones. You do not want to travel on that road. Its fate is well too familiar.

In sum, practicing policy conformity to the reality that All Somaliland people are now united in destiny and only the policies that further invigorate as such will be promising and court a win.

Obviously in Africa, new faces at the echelons of power don’t guarantee real reforms. Kulmiye, however, “may” has the chance to win in the upcoming election, if party and its leaders wake up to the call for a change in their lopsided policy. Kulmiye and its leaders should know that it would have to do more with party ‘s policies predilections if it looses the upcoming election. They will have only themselves to blame.
